Cutoff Crafts is thrilled to return to Spokane’s Lunar New Year for 2025! The spectacular event is hosted by the wonderful people of Spokane’s United We Stand at the Spokane Convention Center. The doors open at noon and the event is entirely free to attend.
United We Stand will be handing out more than 5,000 Red Envelopes at the event with over $20,000 in prizes inside. These envelopes are known as “hong bao” and symbolize good fortune in the new year. The first 500 attendees will also receive swag bags.
Cutoff Crafts will also be handing out Red Envelopes to the first 100 customers who spend $20 or more on our wonderful merchandise. Each Red Envelope wishes the person luck for the new year and includes a real coin from many countries including: China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and more!
My absolute favorite thing to see is always the Dragon and Lion Dancers. The Dragon Dance winds its way through the entire venue to the beat of the pounding drums. The dancers wield their poles with skill making the dragon look like it is a powerful, soaring, beast that chases away the evil spirits to protect the new year.
The Lion Dancers are teams of two that cavort and perform more acrobatically. They are very playful and fierce. Often the Lion Dancers perform with the Third Prince. Last year, Cutoff Crafts was very fortunate to have the Lion Dancers perform directly in front of our booth at the end of the show.
There are activities on the main stage planned all day long. It is an absolute avalanche of incredible cultural displays. I am looking forward to hearing the Taiko Drummers and seeing the Hanfu Fashion Show.
The Spokane Lunar New Year Celebration will end with a marvelous fireworks display at 7:00 p.m.
We hope to see you there!
